Hi, I'm Carl Stokes. I am a fully qualified/registered psychotherapeutic counsellor who integrates the psychodynamic theories of Carl Gustav Jung into my practice.
I have worked with many clients with a wide range of difficulties, both in private practice and within public organisations. I offer a safe confidential space for persons who are experiencing psychological difficulties.
Life throws up many obstacles that prevent us from living the happy/creative life we would like.
When we come up against an impasse, or traumatic event on life’s journey, it can leave us feeling anxious, depressed, angry or hopeless. At the root of much so called mental illness are emotional and psychological factors such as traumatic childhood experiences and emotional conflict.
At Carl Stokes Counselling, I can offer the chance to express these traumatic experiences and work through the difficulties in a creative way in order to help you move forward in life. I will listen empathically to understand what it’s like to walk in your shoes, in order to help you find the solutions to your problems.
At the heart of my practice is the therapeutic relationship formed between myself and the client, a relationship built on trust, understanding and an unconditional positive regard for your experiences and difficulties free of judgement. I offer short- or longer-term work usually once weekly, this can be more frequent if required. Sessions are conducted face to face or remotely, at a time that is convenient for you.
I also work with dreams, art and sound therapies, which can be very useful in understanding what we find difficult to express with words alone.
I work within the ethical framework as set out by the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) - my membership number is MBACP 00900579.
I also have full public indemnity insurance.
